TRADITIONAL SERBIAN DANCING IN PERTH

Our folklor group has been proudly preserving and sharing Serbian culture in Perth for over 20 years. Led by our dedicated instructor Mira Podrašćanin, generations of young people have learned traditional dances, built lifelong friendships, and proudly represented our community at local and national events. Through vibrant costumes, music, and movement, we keep the spirit of our heritage alive—one kolo at a time.

JUNIORS (4-12)

Our youngest dancers begin their journey here, learning the basics of Serbian folklor through fun, music, and movement. It’s all about building confidence, coordination, and a love for tradition in a warm and supportive environment.

YOUNG ADULTS (13+)

Our Young Adults is where experience, skill, and passion come together. These dancers perform complex choreographies from all regions of Serbia, showcasing strength, precision, and stage presence. Many have been with the group since they were children, and their dedication shines through at every performance. Whether it’s a major festival, a national competition, or a packed hall at the Centre, the Big Group leads the way in representing our community with pride and tradition.

FOLKLORNA GRUPA ZAVICAJ (HOMELAND)

Our folklor group proudly carries the name Zavičaj, which means “Homeland” in Serbian. The name reflects exactly what our dances, costumes, and songs represent—a deep connection to our roots, our culture, and the generations who came before us. For many of us born or raised in Australia, Zavičaj is more than just a name—it’s a reminder of who we are, where we come from, and the responsibility we carry to keep our traditions alive. Through every step and performance, we honour the homeland in our hearts.

OUR CHOREOGRAPHER

MIRA PODRASCANIN

Our beloved choreographer, Mira Podrašćanin, is the soul of our folklor program. With over 30 years of experience and a heart dedicated to preserving Serbian tradition, Mira has taught thousands of children—not just how to dance, but how to carry themselves with pride, discipline, and connection to their roots. Her influence spans generations; it’s not uncommon to see parents who once danced under Mira now bringing their own children to her rehearsals. Her passion, patience, and unmatched ability to turn even the shyest child into a stage-ready performer make her more than just a teacher—she’s a cultural force, a mentor, and a second mother to so many. There’s folklor in Perth, and then there’s Mira’s folklor.
